The Lara difference

Why this is rarely done well.

Phuket has dozens of fishing boats but only three rigs in the Andaman that count as serious big-game platforms — and they book out two months ahead in season. Walk-up charter shops sub-let to whoever has the day off, with second-hand tackle and a deckhand who’s never released a marlin.

Lara holds the direct line to two of those three serious operators. She names the specific boat, the captain by name and the day’s rig before you commit. Live-bait runs are scheduled the night before — no two-hour delay at first light.

The angler crossing 'black marlin in the Andaman’ off the list. The host taking three friends out for a milestone day. The CEO who wants the Bertram to himself and a non-fishing guest topside in the air-conditioned saloon.

How it works

Common questions

The quiet answers.

  • What does a full-day private charter cost?

All-in for a 50ft Bertram, captain and mate, fuel, tackle, ice and bait: USD 6,800–9,200 per day depending on season. Catering for non-anglers and villa pickup included. Trophy mounts arranged at cost.

  • When is the Andaman season?

Big-game season runs November through April. Black marlin peak February–March; sailfish run year-round but most reliably in season. Outside those months Lara redirects to inshore game on a smaller rig — speak to her.

  • How experienced do we need to be?

Zero experience required for stand-up on smaller game. Fighting-chair work on a 200kg-plus marlin needs basic conditioning — the mate runs a quick drill before the first trolling pass and stays at your shoulder.

  • Tag-and-release or keep?

All billfish are tag-and-release as standard. Yellowfin, dorado and wahoo can be kept and dressed for your villa chef on request — or filleted and sent to your hotel.
